Oral Surgery We Perform

After a thorough evaluation and in consideration of all your unique needs, Dr. Schultz may recommend oral surgery for any one of several reasons:

Tooth Extraction

When a tooth is so damaged that we can’t save it with a root canal or dental crown, we will recommend extraction. Removing a tooth is almost always a last resort, except in cases where we need to extract a tooth in preparation for dentures. You can rest assured that we will exhaust all our options and consult closely with you before we decide to remove a tooth. But it's important to know that if we don't remove an unhealthy tooth, it can spread infection and bacteria throughout your body, creating any number of systemic health issues.

Wisdom Teeth Extraction

Wisdom teeth can cause a lot of problems for your oral health, especially if they become impacted. This condition leads to pain and discomfort and overcrowding of your teeth. Wisdom teeth are also challenging to keep clean because they are so far back in your mouth, and lack of thorough oral hygiene leads to gum disease and decay.

Dental Implant Placement

Dental implants are the gold standard for tooth replacement because they closely mimic the appearance and function of natural teeth. Dr. Schultz expertly places a small titanium post in your jaw, which is then allowed to heal. Over time, the implant integrates with surrounding tissue, becoming a stable part of your dental anatomy. When the healing process is complete, we will attach a restoration like a crown, bridge, or denture.

Comforting Sedation Options

Our compassionate care and concern for your needs go a long way in helping you stay calm and comfortable. But we know you may need additional help to relax, and that’s where safe and effective sedation dentistry comes in!

We offer nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, which is a safe, mild sedative that we administer through a small nasal mask. Just sit back, inhale normally, and in moments, the calming effect takes hold. You will feel slightly euphoric, dreamy, and detached from the activity around you.

Some of our patients require a little deeper method of sedation to help them relax, so we also offer oral conscious sedation. Dr. Schultz will prescribe an anti-anxiety medication for you to take about an hour before you arrive at our office. You will feel very calm and relaxed, and some patients even drift off during their procedure.
